HP Photosmart 7760

My HP Photosmart 7760 has began giving me a message that it is not connected. I tried un-installing the printer but have been unsuccessful with it.
When i try to re-install from the cd it tells me I already have a more updated version on my computer.
By doing this I have 3 printers supposedly installed now.
I have unplugged power and USB and reconnected to no avail.
I run WinXP on a 3 year old Dell Dimension 4550.
Is it possible to remove everything from my computer that is associated with this printer and start from scratch?
Or is there another answer to help me out?
