HP Pavillion DV7 Touch Sensor Buttons nonresponsive

Dec 10, 2009 11:28AM PST

Hey, I have an HP Pavilion DV7 laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Recently the touch responsive buttons right under the screen with volume control and Wi-Fi and all that have become mostly unresponsive. The Wi-Fi button is stuck on off and volume can obviously tell when I touch it but won't respond. All that happens when I try that is that it slowly goes up to full volume or down to mute over the course of about 10 minutes all the time blocking the middle of the screen with the volume window. I've done scans to find drivers and nothing appears to be outdated and since it obviously can tell when I touch it I don't think it's a power button. I also have no way of turning Wi-Fi back on without the button so I've been having to use a wired connection. Any suggestions? I can provide more info if needed. Thanks!

I've also tried a system restore to before this problem started and that didn't work either.

Either its a hardware failure

Or the drivers and helpers that read that have been damaged. Most common are those registry cleaners and malware.

Restore the machine to factory for a test.
