HP Pavillion dv6000 USB AND WEBCAM PROBLEMS!!

Oct 30, 2009 4:23AM PDT

I'm having a few problems with my HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.Windows Vista is my operating system.

It started with my webcam not working. At first the blue light by the camera would stay on even when I wasn't using it. Then when it went off. Eventually when I did go to use it again using Quickplay, it wouldn't work. I would double click on the HP webcam option, and the blue light on the camera would come on, but the display box in Quickplay would remain black, so no video image. Now just today I go into Quickplay and the HP webcam option doesn't exist anymore, it's not there!

Second problem...All 3 USB ports have suddenly stopped working. I've updated the drivers, I've tried uninstalling them and then re-installing them. Nothing works. It doesn't even recognize that there is a device plugged in. Although with one of them, when I plug my ipod into it, the computer makes the indicating sound that something is plugged in, but the device doesn't show up, and no action is taken.

Please please please, if someone knows what i can or should do, tell me! Im a student and this laptop is sort of my lifeline!

After you make a few backups.

Try the full recovery options. The dv6000 (is one of a hundred models) had an issue with bad motherboards. HP replaces the board when problems like yours crop up.

Ok, so you're saying I should back everything up on discs, and then go through the whole recovery process?

Beats the alternatives.

You could try like others with drivers and more but I've learned that you have a choice here. Spend time with driver hunts or get it over with.
