what do you think of this computer? Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.0EGHz with hyperthreading , 512mb of pc2700 ddr sdram, 80gb 4200-rpm hard drive, 15.4 " brightview display with wxga (1280 x 800) , ati mobility radeon 9000 igp graphics ( 128mb shared ddr memory) internal harmon kardon speakers with 16bit sound blaster compatible audio , dvd-rw/cd-rw.

The new Sonoma's look to be the better idea. I expect to see these models on clearance so you may pick it up at a good price.

If you are going to get a hot and heavy Pentium 4M cpu you had better not be getting shared/integrated video !!! The only reason to buy these is if you are a gamer or want a 17" LCD with a 128mb dedicated video card and will never use wi-fi unplugged or use your battery (which will be horrible -- 2 hours likely or less).

The Pentium M Sonoma spec, just out 1/19, has an improved integrated/shared video but there will be models coming out with dedicated video also soon.

HP/Compaq does not have any Sonoma spec models out (the DV1000 at present is the old standard) but the upcoming HPZT4000 may be your ticket (ZT3000 15.4" widescreen was taken off sale at Somona launch) so stay tuned for better models.......
