HP Pavilion xt963

Mar 3, 2005 1:07PM PST

I have the HP Pavilion xt963, it says it will support two sticks of 256 133 ram. I bought a second stick of 256 pc 133 ram, when I inserted it, the pc just beeped a couple of times and turned off.

I tried removing the old and just using the new, it happened the same. I really don't know what to do to make this work Sad

Any help would be great Happy

Have you tried just using the old memory?

xt963 Ram

I recently upgraded from a xt963 that I had used since Dec. 2000. I added memory (128)to it a few years ago. it uses pc 133 RAM, but it runs at pc 100. So the memory has to be capable of making this step down. If I remember right, most of the pc 133 memory I looked at then (two years ago)wouldn't run at pc 100.
I may be wrong, but I thought that all the xt 963 were bundles sold at Wal mart, which is where i bought mine. I also thought they all came with just 128 ram installed. I am no expert on installing memory, but I would think that if the new memory is going to work, it will work if you take the old out and place the new in the slot the old was in. If it works like that buy another one just like it for the second slot.
