HP Pavilion DV61297us, 2007 with Windows XP?

Apr 3, 2014 5:21AM PDT

Well, I was going to buy a new Hard Drive for my old XP and then decided it was fine just the way it was....Then Microsoft decided to not give upgrades to XP anymore!

My laptop is a really good working computer, a little slow, but fine for what I use it for so........if I go on line with it after April 8th is it safe? If not, is it capable of using Windows 7 and how expensive would that be?

I hate to toss out such nice laptop, but I don't want to be a security risk.

Any and all advice will be appreciated.

It wasn't safe before April 8th.

A raw XP SP3 even before this date wasn't absolutely safe. There are many discussions here about this area but why not backup what you can't lose and see what happens?

Even last week I cleaned up Conduit from Windows 7 so it's no better.

Thanks, Bob. I'll do as you suggest - back up and either use my iPad on vacation or move to a new, light weight laptop.

Funny how you get attached to an old one!
