HP Pavilion A867 C-B and it's US equivalent?

Mar 20, 2005 5:38AM PST

I saw this at the local Costco in a bundle package w/a 19" LCD monitor. I can't seem to find any info online about this particular model except it's available in Canada. I am in the states, and am wondering what the US equivalent to this would be, and if it's available in Canada, what the hell is it doing here? Not a big fan of buying pre-packaged pc's, however, it's around my price range, and am computerless right now and Costco has a 6 month return policy on any computers.

Specs include a P4 3.4GHz 550 w/HT tech, 1 GB of pc3200 ddr sdram, 250GB 7200 SATA RAM, DVDRW/CDRW, lightscribe double layer 16X, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 128 Mb shared.

Any opinions or feedback is appreciated. I don't know much, and have never had an HP, but am in a rush and don't have time to configure or wait for delivery.

HP usually uses same Model # in US/Canada

Gee khaeman, what was the price, so we will be able to evaluate if a good buy. If you saw, "at the local Costco" in the US, how do you know it's available in Canada? A online search of Costco in Canada and the US reveals nothing on this HP Pavilion A867 CG.

After extensive digging in HP was able to come up with specs:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en〈=en&cc=us&product=448709&dlc=en&docname=c00280717

The motherboard PTGD1-LA is not listed with Asus, apparently special made for HP. The specs does list a 915G chipset which supports both integrated (on board)GMA 900 video graphics that apparently comes with the PC and allows for upgrade to a PCI-Express x16 video card. If they made a mistake and the chipset is 915GV, then there is only the integrated on board GMA 900 graphics with no external graphics port. I notice the specs indicate three PCI with 2 available, and one PCI Express available, but doesn't indicate if it is a 1x bus or x16 for a Video Card.

What price and if you saw in Costco ask them where to buy. If in Canada, it may be a good buy for them, and should also be the same MODEL number in the US with possible lower price than in Canada.

Gee, when I get time I may be able to do further search 'footwork' for you.

Sorry for the delay, thought I had subscribed to this thread which I obviously did not. Anyway, went ahead and made the buy since I didn't have time....Satisfied with the results, but still wary cuz I've never owned an HP. We'll see if it passes the six month test. Oh yeah, price in US $ was 1499.00

I also saw the A867 c-b at COSTCO and the A775cb both were $1499 (US) with 19" lcd monitor. the only real difference seemed to be cd speed 8x vs 16x and 1 MB memory vs 512. I asked the sdales rep and they said that these were custom configurations for COSTCO so I doubt that there is going to be anything unless you can find what the regular HP number is.This is a common ploy to avoid thos eguaranteed low price gimmicks, etc. You will never find the same model anyplace else (by name) so it will never be a lowere price.

Thanks for the info. Couln't wait so went ahead and made the purchase. If anything goes wrong, or it doesn't meet my standards, I have the 6 month return from Costco so I feel a little safer.
