And they range from photocopiers to printers and you name the brandname. This is not a HP exclusive issue.
I'll share one story (I have many). One of our printers showed the infamous paperjam message. Hours later the repairman emerged after taking the printer about 1/2 way apart with a paper sliver that found just the right place on some sensor.
Fast forward to today. You can buy a new printer for what 4 hours of repair costs. Maybe even 1. And how old is that printer? They are not built to last past a few years. And if they were, you would have paid far more for it.
Time to decide if you will take it apart more or just chuck it.

My officejet d145 indicated that there is a paper jam. In reality, there is no paper left in the printer. I have cleaned the parts as recommended in the user guide. I have contacted the HP online assistance and I have followed the instructions given, cleaning catridge contacts, unplug/plugin from PC, power on and then unplug, wait 30 seconds, plug in again, 4 times, this did not resolve the problem. HP recommended to take the printer to a repair shop.
Has anyone run into a similar problem? The bad thing here is that you can't do anything, the error message blocks the printer, so that it even would not try to start. I'm even not sure if the error message is correct. I spent I don't know how many hours to have it work, but no way.
I think HP should make it easy for a user to use their equipment, but this is just a nightmare.
