HP Officejet d145 paper jam problem

Feb 27, 2005 4:00PM PST

My officejet d145 indicated that there is a paper jam. In reality, there is no paper left in the printer. I have cleaned the parts as recommended in the user guide. I have contacted the HP online assistance and I have followed the instructions given, cleaning catridge contacts, unplug/plugin from PC, power on and then unplug, wait 30 seconds, plug in again, 4 times, this did not resolve the problem. HP recommended to take the printer to a repair shop.
Has anyone run into a similar problem? The bad thing here is that you can't do anything, the error message blocks the printer, so that it even would not try to start. I'm even not sure if the error message is correct. I spent I don't know how many hours to have it work, but no way.

I think HP should make it easy for a user to use their equipment, but this is just a nightmare.

I've seen this on some dozen printers.

And they range from photocopiers to printers and you name the brandname. This is not a HP exclusive issue.

I'll share one story (I have many). One of our printers showed the infamous paperjam message. Hours later the repairman emerged after taking the printer about 1/2 way apart with a paper sliver that found just the right place on some sensor.

Fast forward to today. You can buy a new printer for what 4 hours of repair costs. Maybe even 1. And how old is that printer? They are not built to last past a few years. And if they were, you would have paid far more for it.

Time to decide if you will take it apart more or just chuck it.

Phantom paper jam...
Mar 1, 2005 4:33AM PST

Hi,

This kit can report a paper-jam if the paper is not being picked-up properly.

If you press the paper-feed/load key, does it do anything? If it turns the pick-up rollers but doesn't pick-up paper, then the rollers need cleaning. You CAN use surgical spirit, but Isopropyl alcohol is better, and stuff called Platen-Clene is even better, as it seems to re-texture the rollers.

Clean these rollers by holding tightly to a cloth moistened with the spirit pressed against the roller (one at a time!) and pressing the feed key. It is surprising hopw much cr*p (technical term) comes off.

This usually works for me. Good luck!

Paper Jam
Mar 2, 2006 1:36AM PST

Hi erikiwi
I,ve got a canon pixma iP4000 bought 6mths ago and I,m stuck with exactly the same problem. Just wasted a full day getting nowhere fast. Emailed canons help desk was told replies usually take 2 to 3 days...not holding my breath. Funny thing is an identical problem arose with first week or two of purchase but it started working again...sheer fluke I'm sure. I am using compatible ink cartridges and I'm sure canon will say warranty null and void but the first time it happened it had original canon cartridges in it. Anybody got any ideas...If it wasnt for the fact that I've just bought a load of compatible cartridges I'd chuck it in the bin AAAAARRRRGGHHH!!

Paper Jam error message clearing ...
Jan 16, 2008 3:04PM PST

I don't know if you have tried this or not, but often the "Paper Jam" error message can be cleared off the display, and normal printing will then result, by pressing the "OK" button on the control panel of the printer (usually under the display). Hope that helps.
