HP Mini 100 no Wifi

Hola. The wifi was working fine on this netbook a few days ago and now the light just stays red constantly. The sound also cuts in and out intermittently. This seemed to coincide with my downloading and installing some updates, although I'm not positive the two are connected. It's running the default netbook operating system, I think it's called gnome. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lesson?

Don't accept driver updates from Microsoft. (repeat until it hurts.)

Use system restore to when it worked and hope you don't have to use the recovery media.

Where is system restore?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Gnome at all. How do I do System Restore? I'm just trying to get this computer up and running again for my Mom.

No Gnome here.

Our HP mini came with XP and restore media and a short booklet on how to restore the OS. Sadly your reply makes me think that only using the recovery CDs will fix this.
