HP memory bank

Apr 14, 2005 7:12AM PDT

I am a novice at this stuff so bear with me. I have an old HP Pavilion 6530 that had 64 mb of ram in one memory bank and the 2nd bank was empty. I bought 2 sticks of 128 to upgrade the ram to 256 (max allowed). But the 2nd memory bank will not see either stick. In the bios setup screen it shows 'Memory bank 0 Not installed'. Memory bank 1 shows the 128 stick. Is there any way I can make it see memory bank 0?

Here's a trick I use: get an old toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the ram slot with some to&fro. This should help clean any deposits, dust and/or possible corrosion. You should inspect for any damage just in case. Also, I hope you have a matched pair or ram sticks, it shouldn't make a difference but it does at times.
