HP Laptops Windows 7 Upgrade Drivers withheld

by deckhardt / March 5, 2010 11:52 AM PST

Purchased a TX2500Z Touchscreen Laptop in 2009 before the "free" windows upgrade from vista.

Tested it with a Dual Boot Vista/Win7 RC everything worked fine in Win7 RC and I booted to Win7RC exclusively

It is listed on HP's Windows 7 compatible list.
There is an HP Windows 7 upgrade kit for buyers who purchased after the "free Windows 7 upgrade" date.
For those who purchased before the "free update" date HP states a retail version of Windows 7 must be purchased.

I purchased the retail version of Windows 7 and drivers are missing unlike Win7 RC, HP will not support nor provide drivers for my Retail version of Windows 7. They suggest I restore my laptop to its original Vista.

What BS to offer a Win7 upgrade kit, but not offer those same drivers to Retail upgrades.

Drivers for Windows 7
by jrandall3 / March 6, 2010 1:54 AM PST

Windows 7 retail version is still relativily new to the market. Only the newest hardware will have drivers for Windows 7. Just as it was with all previous operating systems, it will take some time for the manufacturers to create drivers for older hardware. Depending on how old your hardware is dominates when and if the drivers are produced. Your only hope is to contact the manufacturer and ask if new drivers are being developed.

They have the drivers, for those who purchased after June'09

HP has the drivers, and you can get them for my specific model IF you are eligable for the Win7 free upgrade. The drivers just aren't all available for download. Spent an hour with Tech support who ended up telling me that theirs is a special version of windows, that I can get if I am eligable for the free upgrade, but I cannot purchase it. They will not support my Vista upgraded via Retail version

HP Support Assistant?
by whitemocha / March 7, 2010 12:12 AM PST

Does your new computer have HP's Support Assist.? It will analyze and download any and everything needed on a regular basis. If your computer did not come with it installed try a work around by going to HP Total Care and let it scan, and hopefully find, that your drivers are missing. It may recommend you install and provide them to dl. Just a work around shot.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
