Do you have access to a multimeter ? (Voltage meter).
I would suggest you check the voltage on the actual power lead then remove the battery and check the stored voltage on this. should give you good indication if its a battery problem .
Though I must say we get many failed hp laptops and 95% of the time its a faulty power lead where it goes into the pwer cover they tend to break inside and short.

Hi there, I have a HP Compaq 6715b that won't power up; whenever I press the power button, the battery LED flashes 8 times, and then nothing.
Only thing I know is that my mother put it on the car's trunk on their way back from vacations; a 4-5 hours trip.
Could it be a battery issue?
