HP Laptop vista vertical screen jump

HP Pavill dv4 Vista, screen jumping every 2-3 seconds lasting a second, does it much worse after it goes to sleep for a few minutes then calms down to a steady 2-3 seconds before next hiccup. Also very bottom of screen constantly jumping, unreadable bar, can see some of the icons from very top of screen down at very bottom. Any advice really appreciated driving me nuts hard to work.

Is this the stock drivers?

And which dv4? I see 30 or more models at hp.com.

Thanks for responding, I've made no changes to the drivers, only kept it updated with auto-updates. The model # is dv4z-1200 anything else you need please advise.

Thanks for you time Bob I did the updates but no improvement. Also tried to catch how bottom of screen looks with print screen with Adobe but when I paste it into adobe, it doesn't show and appears normal. Whatever it is print screen function isnt seening it.

I was trying to avoid writing this was a hardware issue. The next step HP will do is to reload the factory image before having it sent in for repair.

I fear this is the same failed design as the famous DV6000 model. The DV6000 and DV9000 suffer from a flaw and many failed (google that.)

This model if it has the same AMD x2 and Nvidia GMA GPU looks to be that same chipset used in the failed dv6000 line. I was hoping to not have to write about it.

The cost out of warranty to repair is about the same as a new laptop.

--> AFTER you backup your stuff TWO TIMES see if a call to hp.com finds HP recalling this issue or what it will cost.

why is it so much to fix especially if it's a factory flaw? Cant I buy a new one with different gpu's and use my current other hardware? I paid a lot of money for this thing only three years ago not ready for that kind of investment again.

How do I find out of it is in fact the AMD x2 and Nvidia GMA GPU

What many can't grasp is that the warranty is only for so long. Even if it was a design issue (see the dv6000 discussions) the warranty is still limits how long till they are off the hook. In the case of the dv6000/9000 this was extended and now is over. Do you need to discuss warranties?

As to factory flaw. If you think about it, all products have flaws. Laptops have about a 4 year life span yet I find folk that don't believe it. It may take a few more years till folk figure that out. That and these are not zero repair or zero maintenance machines. That's a long discussion in itself.

So back to the problem. To make sure it's the hardware I have to go back to the factory load. If that fails then we call HP and begin that process. I can share you need to set aside 4 or more hours from the time you begin the call. Get comfy.
