Question

HP laptop screen only working on external monitor (TV)

Sep 8, 2015 1:13PM PDT

Hi! I'm prettynew here.
I have an HP 15-r218na laptop and just had my screen replaced. I was watching a show on my laptop through my TV yesterday. When I woke up today I found that my laptop's screen wouldn't work. It gives off a grey glow like it normally does when loading up but that's as far as it goes. However I found that when plugged into the TV via HDMI, it worked (although the laptop screen is still grey). Could anyone help me? I've just paid £140 to have the screen replaced!!!

That's bad news. Maybe some good news?

We've completed the items that we do before it's worked on by a tech.

http://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c04547962 shows a 5th Gen Intel CPU. This laptop should be well inside warranty.

-> A reminder. A windows pc is not run without backups. When any maker works on a PC, there is a high probability they will return it with a factory installed OS. Your files must be on your backups.

Ok so just to clarify:

- I should take it into a tech
- You said the laptop is within warranty, are you suggesting that I would need to get it replaced?
-And before i take it in i should back up everything?

If there is a HP service center? Yes.

As to the replacement, I don't know the exact terms of your warranty so I can't tell you if they will fix it or replace it.

On the last point, all Windows PC users should be doing that. When they don't they offer learn why folk write and talk so much about backup of what we can't lose.
