Resolved Question

HP Laptop freezing every 5-10 seconds with aero theme

Mar 6, 2016 4:14PM PST

My HP laptop with Windows 7 (and with an AMD A6-5200 APU plus 8.00GB of RAM) has been having problems lately when I installed a 128GB SSD and 8.00GB of RAM. With the Windows Aero theme enabled, every 5-10 seconds it freezes and it's very annoying. With the basic theme, it works fine. It worked fine on Windows Aero before I upgraded it with the new SSD and RAM. I thought maybe the SSD was bad or not supported so I took it out and put the old 500GB HDD that was in it before back in. I even reinstalled Windows 7. It still freezes. I tried changing out the RAM and adding new RAM modules however it also didn't help. I have the right graphics drivers from the driver website. What could be the problem, here?

I realized it wasn't a hardware error or anything like that... I just needed to install the chipset drivers.

Answer
The A6 isn't very powerful.

If you put it back to when it worked then it could be heat related. Did you keep up the usual 1st of the month canned air routine?

About this Windows 7 install. Is it a factory issued with drivers, good to go? Some folk install windows and the follow on work is too hard today.

1. The A6 is actually pretty powerful at least for me. I am able to run 10+ tabs in Chrome without it slowing down. Also, it ran Windows before without the freezing problem.

2. It doesn't overheat I don't think. This is an almost brand new computer and it has no dust in it.

3. Sorry, I haven't done a canned air routine on it yet. From the inside of the computer there is no dust.

4. Yes, the Windows 7 install is factory issued with drivers.

Then the news is grim.

There's a hardware issue if the factory restored OS fails. Now there are folk that install Roger's Registry and RAM cleaner (fictitious name( and problems follow. And I've found folk that call this the factory OS but they had used their own Windows 7 and added drivers. Today, this is not working out so well.

The OS still works and I am able to use it fine in Windows Basic, but I'd like to be able to use Windows Aero. I know this computer supports it because I can switch to it but it freezes every 5-10 seconds like I said, but it has not froze on Windows Aero before the upgrades (even though I even tried removing the upgrades and it still freezes.

I forgot to mention -- This is not a "Factory OS". However I installed Windows 7 on it and there are drivers for my specific computer meaning that my computer is able to support Windows 7

Thanks for telling.

I didn't get the hint it wasn't the factory issued OS.
