hp lap can't install windows xp

hp lap can't install windows xp. I receicved an older HP lap from work (I think it's 6920 or 6930 model #).It was santizied in BIOS before I got it. I tried to install windows xp from 2 different disks I had, and keep getting "setup can't find hard disk on machine" from Windows setup program. I checked hard disk and memory and both are good.IN BIOS, there is an HP screen. Do I need an HP install disk? Or, is it because I have used both Windows CP install disks to install xp on other pcs?
Thanks

It's probably a SATA drive

It's probably a SATA drive, and the complications of installing XP onto SATA hard drives have been very widely discussed. So time to spend a little quality time with your preferred search engine reading up on the subject.
