"Can I upgrade the imbedded AS to 4.5?"
No, but you can use ActiveSync's latest version on the Host PC. I've done that without ill effect. Of course there will be some that want some iron clad assurance but who offers this?
As to the sync failures, those are classic and never were properly addressed. There are KB articles about them but we were left to call (and pay) Microsoft or the PDA maker about such. Sadly most of the time they just have you delete the items.
I bought a HP Ipaq 6515 WITH ActiveSync 3.8 (PPC2003 Prem Phone GSM w/Outlook
2002) (Laptop with Windows XP Home SP2)and am having trouble finding answers to a couple of questions. In Microsoft?s pages I only find references to AS
4.1 and above, but nothing for 3.8.
I bought the HP second hand about a year ago and, while I am really happy with the PDA, the AS has caused me to be afraid that some of my information is not being properly synchronized. Today, for example, I checked to make sure that the Calendar items were checked in the list to be synchronised. During synchronisation, I noticed that the Calendar was then not listed in the items being synchronised. I had to disconnect and reconnect several times before it worked properly. How do I make sure that this problem does not recur? It?s happened before, but I can?t say how I solved it.
The second problem is that there are two data files which it says can't be sync'd (?conflict). I know which ones, but find no button or place where I can correct this conflict.
Can I upgrade the imbedded AS to 4.5? MS page lists compatilibily with Windows CE2002 but not 2003 SE. Since the AS 3.8 mostly works, I am afraid to try to update to 4.5, because I don't know if it's compatible or reliable.
Even on the HP homepage, the link dead-ended and I can?t find information about AS 3.8. There is mention of patches, but again a dead-end link.
I am not exactly a computer dummy but a stressed out mom with 2 hyperactive ice hockey players and I need the PDA to keep up with the appointments and trainings, plus we are the team coach for the little one, so there are tons of appointments there too. I don't have the time or knowledge to mess with these kinds of complications and I REALLY need my Sync to be reliable. I also can't afford to buy the newest PDA, would love to, but alas not possible.
By the way, I am in Switzerland and unfortunately the system on my PDA is all in German, but I am savvy enough to be able to work it out in German when I know what it is in English.
Hey, I really would appreciate any help you can offer. This thing is supposed to make my life easier, not harder.
Thanks in advance for your time.
