HP HDX16 1040US Battery not charging

by ccabler00 / December 6, 2010 9:50 AM PST

I just formatted my hard drive, and did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium, and now my battery wont charge. It is detecting the battery, but not charging. I have tried uninstalling and disabling the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager, but that has not worked. Oddly, after I tried that a couple times, it looked as though the battery was charging(the meter was filling up like it was charging), but that stops after a few seconds. Any thoughts or ideas is appreciated. Thanks.

Secondly, if my battery is bad, should I keep it removed so nothing is damaged?

Try the OS the machine came with.

That should nail if this is some OS driver BIOS issue.

Thanks for the tip, but...

...I had Windows 7 on it for almost a year, and the battery worked(although sluggish when on battery power, so I wouldn't be shocked if my battery was dead) Im not sure why it would stop working after a "reinstall". Just trying to save $130 if I can. Would flashing or resetting the BIOS be of any help in this scenario?

I have to write no.

It worked with the old bios.

Batteries for most laptops are 300 cycle 1 or so year affairs. The problem I run into is if there is a mainboard fault, a new battery will act like the old battery. This is where a shop test can sniff out which it is.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
