You can get(verify) the burner s/w at HP support website. Yes, it needs to work with HP products for 100% if so used. Doesn't matter what system in, its the HP product amd related s/w. However, if you're suggestiung you're using some other DVD burner s/w and it fails, then why not run theier diags and check the results. If none with your s/w product, then try burner s/w support website. In many cases, expect problems with older/very used drives, they do fail and get worse and repair isn't possible other than replace. You should at least try a cleaning, blow out and then retest.

I'm having a problem (I believe) with my HP DVD Writer. First off, my computer used to be an HP computer, but because of all the upgrades I have done, the only thing HP is the two optical drives, mouse, and keyboard. My problem is that when I try to use Norton Ghost to backup my harddrive onto a DVD it ends up with a write failure error. I think what might be the problem is that I need HP's RecordNow software inorder for the DVD Writer to work at all. This was the case with playing DVD movies, my Graphics card, by Nvidia, wouldn't play DVD's unless I installed NVDVD. The drive can read DVD's, CD's and I think burn CD's, but it doesn't seem to burn DVDs. But, I don't know... are there any ideas???
