HP dv6000 wireless not working

I started my computer yesterday after coming home from work to find that the wireless internet is not working. I know the router is not the issue because I have other devices and computers connected to my router. On the laptop, there is a switch on the front for wireless with an LED indicator light, red when it's off and blue when its on. no matter which position the switch is in, the light is always red. One interesting part is that the wired networking is still working fine. I tried going onto the HP support website and downloading a new driver but I either got the wrong one or it did not work.

does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? the last time this happened it was a full system failure and not just the networking, so i'm hoping there can be an easy fix in order.

Try a hotspot near home.

Also we have too many posts like this and it turns out to be the old WEP security issue. Let's hope you are broadcasting SSID, using WPA-PSK so we don't run into that old issue.

Yes, it looks grim. Like a hardware failure but my reply is about a last ditch effort before it's back to HP.

well im not 100% sure on the particulars you asked for. I'm not running any network security and there were no changes to the network since the last time that I connected to it on this laptop.

Which is why I note to use WPA security.

If not you may be repeating a lesson learned by many in the forum. Again, your choice and it does look like a hard failure but rather than just give up I thought we could try it.

Check device manager

to see if your Broadcom wireless device shows a yellow exclamation mark. If this is the case you will have to reinstall proper drivers. Also check if the device has been disabled showing a cross mark (red). If so enable the device and move the hardware switch to 'on' position.
