HP dv2000 Screen Problem

Oct 6, 2007 7:43AM PDT

Hello,
I've had my HP dv2000 laptop for about 7 months now, and recently it's been acting up. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, with and NVIDIA graphics card and an AMD Turion 64x2 processor. My problem is; if I cut off the computer or restart it, or close the screen, the screen will remain completely black. The screen will look like the computer is cut off, but the computer is actually turned on because all of my lights are on. If this happens (which it does for sure everytime) I will have to use the power button to restart the computer several times until the computer finally starts up correctly. It prompts me to start windows normally or in safe mode everytime as well. I'm not sure if this a Windows Vista problem (that could be fixed with an update), or an HP "laptop" problem. I've tried updating Windows and updating other software I have, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone ever heard of this problem or have any suggestions?

The driver page they have for your laptop to see if they offered new drivers, BIOS and such?

I have the same problem with my dv2125nr, mine sometimes when the screen saver start and I leave it running for some time and then I move the mouse, the screen gets distorted, I did update the BIOS and nothing yet, seems like the screen gets unsynchronized. I'm sending mine back to HP this week

screen flicker
Oct 13, 2008 2:47AM PDT

I have a dv2210us and after 5 months (post warranty of course) I have an intermittent screen flicker/fading problem. The screen just flickers like there is some sort of loose connection in the backlight or its just going out. What is interesting is that when I use the AC adapter, the screen dims even more compared to just on battery.

I checked for most recent updates, no impact. I suspect its a HW related problem.

How did you get less than the usual 1 year warranty?

Was it a refurb? If so, it's usually told to many to "extend the warranty" to the time you are willing to go without the insurance.
