HP dv1000 or Compaq V2000?

As to the time to shop, I'll agree. This is the season I try not to... I wait till Jan or Feb...

As to the HP or Compaq, the units may be very close but I liked the feel of the HP keyboard so it would be worth 60 bucks for that alone. Go try it.

The primary advantage of the HP DV1000 is its built in remote control and the ability to play DVD's and CD's without booting the computer (which allows you to get longer battery life and play 2 DVD's back to back).

If this is not a priority to you than look for a different notebook as both of these don't have dedicated video RAM, etc. so the primary purpose of getting one is to have a lighter notebook for travel and easy transport for web surfing, watching DVD's or playing CD's, Microsoft office, etc.

The HPZT3000 or Compaq X1000 (15.4" widescreen) are better if you will be doing more robust work and want to get dedicated video RAM.

The $100 custom order rebate is still available through 12/1/04. There are other discounts you can find out about at X1000forums.com.

You missed the back to school promotions which is the #2 selling season after Christmas (July-September) so of course this time of year is slower.
