HP DV1000????

Oct 15, 2004 2:02PM PDT

I have done a lot of research on this notebook and it seems to be pretty nice. I have a few questions about it though. I see that it has a somewhat weak graphics card installed and was wondering if anytime in the future HP would ever consider to offer a better graphics card or would they just leave it as is. I'm afraid that is the only thing holding me back from purchasing it. I'm not a big gamer at all but it would still be nice to have it. I recently planned on purchasing the HP ZT3000 and noticed that HP no longer offers the 512mn of 1 slot ram. Does anyone know why this is???

The usual reason is that they have a glut of 256M sticks... So you alter the order forms to eat what you have.

The DV1000, with its DVD and CD functions with the computer off gives better battery life and excellent consumer use versatility if that if the notebook is used for travel (on the plane or on the subway) without booting the hard drive.

Also, the 14" widescreen is something that many people have been looking for as some don't want the bulk or extra weight of the 15.4" widescreen on the HPZT3000/Compaq X1000 series and Dell 8600 and many others.

No, I don't think HP will add dedicated video to this model for awhile if ever. The HPZT3000/Compaq X1000 is already there and this model (DV1000 or Compaq equivalent with less features) is slotted below it in price and intended for those for whom lighter weight, the consumer DVD/CD functions and the somewhat longer battery life (smaller LCD and DVD/CD with computer off) offset the loss of the dedicated video card and its gaming component or high end video program component.

For that stick to the ZT3000/X1000 series.

As Bob said, probably they are trying to get rid of some 256mb RAM sticks if they don't offer the 1 stick 512mb RAM option.

I got 512mb RAM 1 stick in my X1360US prebuilt even though the specs said 2x256 so I was able to upgrade to 1gb for 69.99 at Fry's Electronics later (Kingston PC2700RAM).
