hp dv 4000 voltage tolarances

Feb 4, 2009 1:09PM PST

ive got an hp dv 4000 it worked fine until i lost the charger the computer runs on 18.75 volts (or somthing like that) and i have 2 dell chargers but i dont have the computers any more so i was wondering if i could splice the end plug off the dell charger (sence its not the same size) and use an different plug that fits in the original charger port. but theirs only one problem the dell charger use 19.75 volts will this fry the motherboard or be absorbed by the battery? i know i could just buy a charger on ebay for like $10 but i want to try this does anyone think it would work?

I'll write no.

While you're within a common 10% tolerance it's not worth the risk reward. You are risking a 1,000 buck laptop over a 10 buck adapter.

Bad idea.
