Open cover and using a clean cloth(old t-shirt) or shop towel, wipe down the carriage bar. Repeat, repeat until clean and make sure to clean around the bearing themseleves found at the carriage. Use a light oil, sewing machine oil is fine or 3-in-1 Oil is good. Place a few drops and turn on printer, allow it to work it in, then pull AC plug. Your carraige will be free of the parking station and the cariiage can work by hand you sliding back and forth some more oil. Wipe down again, re-oil and wipe again, notice the dirty oil, repeat until fairly clean oil is present. Refrain from any WD40 or sprays, these cause problems due to overspray and or reducing the oil lube abilities. Once done, replug Ac and close cover and check results.

I have an HP Deskjet 520 that makes a loud shifting noise as it prints. What it seems to be is the slide bar that the ink rests on needs to be lightly lubed. How do I go about doing this?
