HP DC5100 compact slide case stuck

HP DC5100 with the small case - one of those cases with no screws. You're supposed to push two buttons on the two sides and gently slide the top off of the bottom, then lift. Problem is, the side away from the power supply slides, but the side closest to the power supply slides 1/16" and then is stuck solid. The button works. The button movement feels the same on both sides. If I could get it off I could fix it. Any ideas what could be hanging up the case and how I can unhang it?
