Try to boot your recovery CD. DO NOT ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING, just see if it boots. If not, replace the CDROM drive and try again.

CD drive
Dec 16, 2004 6:20AM PST

You need to see if the CD drive is defective or not. Will it play music CDs? Will it run any other program CDs? If nothing works, then you have a defective drive. If it is only the printer CD that won't run, then the disk and not the drive is defective.

Is you computer still under warranty? If so, call the company. If not and it isn't working, you can replace the CD drive yourself. I did it and it was easy. Most come with step-by-step instruction and a diagram.

Have you ever opened your computer? Replacing the drive involves opening both sides of the case, removing the screws and cables, pulling the old drive out, putting the new drive in, replacing the cables and screws.

Thanks for the help. It does work other disks. HP sent me a new disk. This one doesn't run either.I don't know what is the problem, one time it says the disk is dirty. the next time I get to preparing to install. It has never installed. Any suggestion on how to use my new printer? Again thanks for any and all help.I have had the printer a month and still have not been able to use.

HP 1300
Dec 16, 2004 6:55PM PST

What operating system are you using? If your CD drive plays other disks, then the drive itself is OK. If you put the HP installation disk into the CD drive, does it automatically start?

I have the HP 1350 all-in-one printer and it installed without any problems. It is very important to install this unit according to the directions. If you don't, it won't run.

The boot test.

If the machine can't boot from bootable CDs, then that's my test to move to swap that drive out.

Ignore it if you want to, but this is the test that removes the OS from the issues liet.

I see people wrestle with dying CDROM drives and just can't bring themselves to dump the drive. They end up replacing it months later after asking everyone about it a few times. Some manage to reload the OS a few times too.

thank you so much for your help. I have had my printer for nearly six weeks and have not been able to use it at all. Your suggestion worked perfectly, it was a long download, but it is finely working. Thanks so much.

do you have a burner
Dec 17, 2004 1:26AM PST

Do you have a burner?

First when your computer boots up, enter setup program.

Press the key that says load default values, then hit the key that says save and exit.

Then try it.

If it doesn't work read on.

I recently have lost my burner. When I finally figured it out, I found out that I had to change my cd rom from SLAVE back to MASTER in order for my HP factory disks to work upon boot up.

Fir unplug the power cord going to your computer

What you would need to do is open your computer up. If you do not know anything about computers, you may want to get out the manual that came with the computer.

Then pull out your cd rom and look at the back of it. It will have a little jumper in the back of it. It should be plugged into the MASTER section. If not move the jumper to the MASTER position and replace your cd rom.

Close up the computer and plug it in.

Start up the computer and it should start up with no problems.

Then insert the recovery cd into the cd rom and restart your computer. The cdr rom Recovery disk should now work.
