HP BRONZE dv5-1235dx review (729$)

by nagol7851 May 30, 2009 11:27AM PDT

I am posting this for those of you on here who are looking for a new laptop. I wanted to share my experience. I hope it helps!

I was in the market for a new notebook under a thousand bucks. Well, I saw a deal on a Gateway at first. It was 499... 3 gigs of ram.. AMD processor. I ended up buying it. The keyboard sucked. The screen was dark. The computer was actually very fast considering the processor it has. I was more than impressed with the speed.

I went to Best Buy today and returned it. I ended up buying this HP. It was between this one and the 17 inch version. The 17 inch version had the full number pad but unfortuantely it had a slightly slower AMD processer and I wanted the best.

There was also another HP but it had an intel pentium dual core processor. And we all know those are stripped down. So, I wanted something with the real thing. The core 2 duo.

So, I ended up buying it. 320 gig harddrive. 4 gigs of ram (expandable to 8 gigs) 2.0 core 2 duo processor, HDMI port, 64 bit vista premium.

Well, some of my hardware wouldn't work with the gateway and I thought it was because it was 64 bit vista. But it wasn't It works with this HP!

Let me say I have owned a lot of computers in my life time. More than most. This HP is the fastest computer I've ever owned. Not to mention the battery life is just out right amazing. Out of all my laptops I've never had a battery last this long. Especially with this much power.

I record music on this laptop and it has been working better than my desktop did. I'm not used to a laptop out performing my desktop. The screen is really bright. The keyboard and mouse pad work really well.

I couldn't believe how fast my programs were loading and how fast my online browsing was going. Plus the 320 gig harddrive is plenty enough space. I have thousands of songs and files and programs and I still have 231 gigs free.

This is a great laptop and worth the 729 easily. If you're thinking about buying a 500 dollar gateway to try to get by cheaper like I did foreget about it. Do yourself a favor and save more. best buy has this computer with no interest for 18 months same as cash on their best buy card.

It also came with a remote. The remote slips in the side of the computer and doesn't get in the way.

The sound is out right amazing. the sound card is the best I've had for an onboard sound card. When I hook up my external usb sound card for recording music it actually sounds better also. The touch sensitive media keys work better than any I've used before.

I really can't believe I got this notebook for 729$ I have bought computers before that cost much more that didn't perform this well. My previous notebook was a high end toshiba notebook that ran about 1800 bucks. Nowhere near as comfortable and fast as this thing.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I know some of you are in the market for a new notebook and I figured I would share my expeirence. For those of you who are scared to switch to 64-bit vista over your normal 32 bit, don't be. Everything seems to work. Even stuff that doesn't say it works with 64 bit seems to be working.

I'll be keeping this one for years. best computer purchase I've ever made. I'm giving it a 10 out of 10 and I've never given any computer a 10. HP just did it right this time.

The only con I can find is it lacks a firewire port. nowadays most things can be found on usb though. It has all the media card readers you need.

It does have a SATA usb port which I haven't had before.
