Question

HP AMD Athlon 64 desktop Help

Apr 9, 2013 1:29AM PDT

Hello,

Good afternoon,

I have signed up today to settle a dispute I currently have on going on eBay. I am very interested in also gaining knowledge on ram memory and how they are compatible with different desktops. I recently purchased a ambient light sensor apple iMac. I then broke this down for parts and sold them on eBay all was ok apart from one customer who purchased my pc3200-U ram memory. They have a HP AMD Athlon 64 desktop, which after a bit of research supports PC 3200 ram although I do not know if it supports PCM-3200 un buffered ram!

The customer has now said that there machine does not work with the ram and at booting stage there HP desktop just bleeps.

Does anyone have further knowledge on this ? Any help and insight on compatibility will be great? And how to approach my customer?

Many thanks.

Richard

I have to write it's far more complex than PC 3200.

There are too many memory parameters for me to list here. Not all sticks work in all things so they could be right. I wish it was as simple as "it plugs in and is PC 3200" would be enough but how would your average Joe/Jane learn all about memory except by the usual 4+ year college course in electronics? They could google more but I fear it's that simple.

It didn't work so take it back and try again. This time try to sell it to folk with the same machine it came out of?

And yes, I have 2 old athlon 64 machines and they are downright picky about what ram works.
