Treat it like a new install.

Unplug it. Read HP's noted on how to clean it out. Follow the directions as if it is a fresh new install.

In closing I just had to do this on a friend's machine after they whacked the machine with a registry cleaner. Gad why do they use those things?

Your posts guide me to my replies. If you omit details such as the PC make, model, the full story then I have to give the "it's dead, Jim" answer sooner than later.

Try to scan from HP software and it says reinstall photo imaging software & try again unexpected error or restart PC or program This does not work to sort iut this unexpected errormessage
It will now scan into Acrobat reader so that is a step in the right direction

I didn't read when said software was installed. I can't guess what's been done of if there was protection software active during the install (Spybot, norton, etc.) that can interfere with the setup.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
