HP all in one 1610

I need to scan in a document and then be able to write on it..I scanned it in..but it is not allowing me to do anything...how do I have to scan it in to be able to write on it?????
Windows XP...HP computer...broadband connection

What file type did you scan it to?

JPEG, Doc, other?
