HP 510 CD Rom removal and new installation

Sep 15, 2004 10:03PM PDT

My CDrom went bad and I bought a DVD burner/CD burner to replace it. The problem I am having is that the CDrom door is part of the front panel and I cant see how to remove the CDrom out the front. It appears the front of the tower needs to be removed to get it out. The same applies to getting the DVD burner in. I dont see how to accomplish getting this exchange done. Any advice would be appreciated.

Goto the HP support website and look up your model#. Usually they have instructions on parts replacements, hopefully for that style, otherwise it would be generic across that model line. Either way, it should give you an idea.

Offhand though, some cases have a snap-in or plastic tabs, you need to depress or release the stay in place tab(s). Then slide or lift out/up as the case maybe. There maybe 1-screw holding it in, thus unscrew and proceed. -OR- The whole internal CD cage holding it in, has to be removed via some screws then lift the cage out from its slots. Thus, the frt. skin is actually untouched. makes sense???

good luck -----Willy Happy
