This looks fine for your stated purpose though you may want to get a laptop with 15.4" or a larger screen. It depends on how heavy you want your laptop to be.

Reliability
Nov 14, 2005 10:55AM PST

....be advised that according to Consumer Reports, Gateway is at the bottom of the pile in Notebook reliability. Just my 2 cents.

not bad for the money as long as you only want it for video watching and stuff... not quite good enough for optimum gaming though...

looks good and battery is good and screen ok...

its more portability than power, assuming thats what you want

Good old Gateway
Nov 14, 2005 9:13PM PST

Yeah everyone says Gateway is lagging behind in the notebook race but sometimes that can be a good thing. It looks like they are trying really hard to win the support of the consumers and they are producing some pretty good laptops at reasonable prices. I just bought one and am considering whether I should keep it or not. I am gonna try it out for a week or two and see how it holds up. I have the option to return it before January 31st so that is what I intend to do if I don't like it. All I can say is do a lot of research before buying one of these things and if you do buy one make sure it can be returned if it is not to your satisfaction.

Can I ask where you bought the laptop that it is returnable thru January? Now that you've owned it for first laptop for my High School student who needs it for travel with the soccer team on those long bus rides. She claims it's for typing papers; I know she'll be watching DVD's as well.... Happy

GATEWAY

I would agree with the user about being on the bottom.

I would not purchase a GATEWAY to play solitaire on.

i would reconsider

the hp dv4000 with ati graphics and centrino processor card for about 1200, or an acer travelmate 4400 with the same ati graphics card but 64 meg for 1096. They are both cheaper than yours and a better deal. They all have 3+ hours of battery life and if you are watching videos, they both have 15.4 inch widescreens and you really need a dedicated graphics card.
