Question

how to wireless connect 1 laptop, two tvs in diff rooms

Mar 23, 2014 7:33AM PDT

I am purchasing a 55' smart TV and home theater speaker system for my living room.

I have a 32' (not smart ) flat screen in bedroom which my laptop is hardwired to the flat screen as a monitor currently.

I want to be able to be in Living room and wirelessly connect ( using a wireless keyboard/mouse in living room) to access the hard drive on laptop in bedroom, esp. for the purpose of playing movies that are it. .

Also I would like to change bedroom wired connections to wireless also.

I don't want to HAVE to move laptop around apt from room to room unless want to.

I want to be able to access movies and TV show that I am constantly downloading from internet sites to laptop drive and to 1 TB external hard drive attached it (external drive is wired connected to laptop currently).

I don't have cable TV at present, just use a antenna in bedroom to get local channels but it does not work well.. I only get 2 stations usually and have a cord running in middle of room to receive the, which I hate.

In bedroom the laptop is hard wired with older an subwoofer with 2 small speakers and 1 center speaker connected but do not get surround effect. when watching TV, these speakers are not connected so it changes to TV own speakers that sound terrible.

Please help me with what I need to purchase at same time as TV etc. and how to connect etc..

please explain

Could you please explain further? BTW I am not very computer or electronic knowledgeable. I went to link but still not sure if this is what I'm looking for.. I am finding the ability to access or stream media content from computer to TVs in various applications but nothing about also actually accessing the computer hard drive and using it with keyboard, in other room though. I'm so confused ! Thank you

Sorry then no.

What you want is not in the store for a decent price. I offer the DLNA BD player so you could play the content you collected but you appear to want a PC on your TV screen. In that case, you over ran the usual solution and let's ask this. Did you see such a solution in the stores?

not sure

When I spoke to salesman about Samsung TV and I explained my request he told me that that particular TV model would definitely do what I wanted and I would just need to purchase a wireless keyboard to use in living room. But I am not sure !

What is the" usual solution" you spoke of ?

I was suggested to get the at the Samsung 1000w 5.1 chan 3d smart Blu-ray home theater syst #HTF5500 . So DLNA BD player is different than one set, I assume? If correct what is difference?

I'm deferring to the sales folk.

While I may offer ideas I'm no sales person.

Ask if the device has DLNA and about a keyboard, if it takes one, I like the Logitech K400. However you seem to have conflicting goals. That is, getting the PC display on your TV is one thing, playing the content something a lot simpler and not very expensive.

Just checking in again. This sounds exactly what a DLNA BluRay player could do for you. These are well under 99 bucks so I think you should get more information on this.

(NT) what is difference in DLNA and "other " blurays?

Well (that's deep!)

DLNA is a feature. OK, since DLNA can be had in many things, it doesn't have to be a BD player but since most use the DLNA feature in BD players and you can spot them for well under 99 bucks I thought it was an option. But it appears not. You want your PC screen on the TV. That's going to cost you.

why not option

Deep huh LOL

Hey why did you rule out the DLNA BD player as an option?

You also mention it will cost a lot to have PC on the TV, what's a lot?

I ruled it out because you want your PC screen remotely.

Now with that out of the way, you need to find long distance video transmission boxes and remote KVM setups.

It's sort of something you need to find now. I would have gone with DLNA but it appears you want more than just playing the content.
