How to use PC while lying down

Aug 3, 2017 12:35PM PDT

I have some disability problem that restricts me to use a laptop while sitting. The only comfortable posture for me is to lie down and use it. But for me, It is very difficult to use a laptop while lying down on the bed. I purchased a Table like this and tried folding in all possible positions I could, But it didn't work and at extreme slant angle it started ruining my laptop.

I think a PC setup would be more beneficial. Can anyone suggest me Is it possible to setup PC so that I can use it while lying down on the bed and what would be the pros and cons of doing that.

hook the computer up to the tv, get a wireless keyboard with touchpad and it is easy to use while lying down. using larger text and Icons, you should have no problems. just a bit more scrolling left to right.

A few ideas that may give you food for thought
Aug 12, 2017 8:31AM PDT

An interesting logistical problem and, as Bob says, the solution will be a very personal choice. Here are a few ideas in principle, your circumstances will dictate whether they are viable or not.

Considering your laptop first, for no better reason than you have it, what it really needs is a horizontal surface on which to stand the base and to be able to tilt the screen less than 90 degrees from the base, say 60 degrees, so that it is "pointing down" at your face (to avoid having to have your head tilted forward). To achieve a comfortable viewing position, the horizontal surface would have to be higher than would allow use of the laptop's own keyboard but that could be solved with a wireless keyboard and mouse, possible a combined keyboard and trackpad to avoid problems manipulating the mouse.

Thinking about a desktop system instead (and you could use your laptop as the desktop base unit), there are devices available through business supply stores that are designed to hold a PC screen above the desk, ostensibly to save desk space. Whether these devices can safely hold a screen (flat panel, obviously) at an angle, tilted towards you, I don't know but, in principle, it should be possible. The base unit, or your laptop, would be on a table beside your bed and you would need a wireless keyboard and mouse. A wired one could work as well, if the cables are not a problem for you.

If you have a local disability support group where you live, they may be able to help explore the options with you or already have a solution.

Good luck to you in finding a solution that works for you.

hospital rolling table
Aug 12, 2017 10:06AM PDT

Ever seen one of those hospital tables that roll under the bed but with a table that moves across the bed and can be lowered to lap level? That would be great with a wireless keyboard and mouse, so long as you had a large enough Monitor or TV at the foot of the bed and your upper body is propped up some.

Here's one from Walmart for under $50
