Question

How to upgrade to SP 3

Sep 6, 2012 6:08AM PDT

I have just taken possession of a reconditioned Dell Latitude D430 for use by a charity. The laptop is running XP SP2. I want to install MS Security Essentials but need to upgrade to SP3 first.

I have tried to run Windows Update but cannot do so, the system returning an error 0x8024400A. I am encouraged to download and install Mr Fixit. Mr Fixit does not work until I upgrade to SP 3, so I am in a loop of frustration.

Can anybody provide advice?

Thanks for all the replies, the issue is now resolved - SP3 is installed, Windows Update is working and Mr Fixit has gone to that big bin in the sky.
