Question

how to transfer video from my Panasonic GS320

May 27, 2014 4:38AM PDT

I have both a Firewire and a USB cable.
Using either one with my W7 PC results in....Installing Driver....Device ready.

In Movie Magic I can't find the Camcorder to import video.

What am I missing?

What to do?

Thank you

Answer
Link shows a classic MiniDV camcorder.

Movie Magic will likely need more defining but this looks to be the really old school FIREWIRE capture system. There is so much written that I'll keep it short.

1. Connect with FIREWIRE.
2. Capture with WinDV (see google)

PS. "A video clip can be transferred directly to your PC

"A video clip can be transferred directly to your PC
(personal computer) via a DV Interface Cable
(optional) using products and software from a
number of video editing software companies.
Using products from video editing software
companies allows you to capture and edit video
clips using the DV Interface.
Panasonic DVC are OHCI compliant and
should have no problem working with any
OHCI compliant FireWire Card/Video —
Editing software package."
- your camcorder's product manual.

Check on your Driver

You need to check that the 1394 driver is the correct one.

Right click on Computer. Click on Properties and then on Device Manager
When this screen comes up Click on the little arrow next to IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers.

You should see 1394 OCHI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy).
If not use Action to add the legacy hardware.

Thank y'all for the replies.

I called Panasonic (800-211-7262) and paid $7.95 for tech support .....which resulted in....
sometimes the older camcorders don't work on new computers.
THAT was a great investment...............???

I think I should let them know that I stumbled onto the answer...and charge them $10.00 for the education/training.

Since "Tecchie" stuff has lots of tentacles, I'm sharing my findings.

I happen to have an XP machine still working. Fired it up and ...bingo....everything worked fine.
Transferred several hours of tape from the camcorder to a USB hard drive...terrific.

Went back and compared WMM on the W7 machine. The "command" (under Tasks) to
"Capture from Video Device" was missing......which led to my checking the VERSION.

The XP has Ver 5.1 but the W7 somehow had Ver 2.1...... hhhhmmmmmmmmmm

After downloading and installing Ver 6.1 to the W7 machine....everything is OK...and faster.

THE lesson.....
DO NOT FORGET BASICS ...LIKE .....WHICH VERSION ARE YOU RUNNING?

Anyway...I'm happy....thank y'all for helping!
