How To Transfer Lotus 8.5 from Win7 to Win8 Computer

by mspersuasive / December 31, 2013 8:04 PM PST

I have a Windows 7 computer with Lotus 8.5 on it and I need to transfer Lotus 8.5 and all it's files and emails and the encryption key to the Windows 8 computer. I do not think that Windows 8 will recognize Lotus 8.5 so I had the idea to partition the Windows 8 computer and install Windows 7 on one of the partitions thus making it a dual boot computer, then install Lotus 8.5 to the Windows 7 partition. My problem is Windows 8 is already installed on the computer and Windows website warns not to install the older operating system second.
Windows website warns, "You must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If you don't (for example, if you install Windows Vista on a computer already running Windows 7), you can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them." What should I do? I have found some information on installing Windows 7 as a second operating system on a Windows 8 computer thus creating a Dual Boot computer and giving you the best of both worlds and full app compatibility as some of your Windows 7 applications may not be supported in a Windows 8 environment. Thank you.

Clarification Request
Did you try to install Lotus 8.5?
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / January 1, 2014 1:24 AM PST

Nothing has changed since 1995 about transferring "programs." FORGET all that about installing another OS, dual booting and more. FORGET the warning about startup issues. Windows 8 has its own startup repair tools and your new PC is under warranty if it doesn't work after this.

Let's here what happens when you install Lotus 8.5 from your Lotus 8.5 CD.

Do Not Have Lotus 8.5 Install CD & Need to Transfer Software
by mspersuasive / January 1, 2014 3:23 AM PST

I do not have the Lotus 8.5 installation CD. I forgot to mention that in my original post-is it possible to transfer the Lotus 8.5 software and all it's data and email information as an ISO file (or something similar) to the new Windows 8 computer? Microsoft's Window's 8 website says Lotus 8.5 is compatible with it. Please help me with this issue. Thank you.

Re: no CD

Then the first step is to buy that. Or possibly find one to make a copy of if it happens to accept the license key of your copy, for which you lost the disk.
For the time being, I would keep using your Windows 7 computer for Lotus. You still have it, don't you?

Where is Lotus 8.5 on Amazon?
by mspersuasive / January 1, 2014 1:31 PM PST

Bob,
I searched Amazon and could not find a copy of the software Lotus 8.5. Would you be so kind as to provide a link to the page you sound the software on? Thank you. By the way IBM (the maker's of Lotus) offer a free trial download of Lotus 8.5 but I do not know how "limited" the trial is. I also found a supposed "free" version of Lotus 8.5 Notes on Softpedia's website.

Can't find it now.

Keep trying but the real portal is now IBM. They changed it to IBM Notes a year or two ago.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
