How to Transfer files Via infrared from handheld to PC?

I have recently bought a USB 2.0 to IrDA (FIR) for transferring files from my handheld to PC/MAC and vice versa. I have installed the device but i am unable to figure out how to perform that transfer or what should be the settings.

If somone can help me in this regard or provide any documentation regarding the procedure, i shall be really thankfull.
