Question

How to Transfer ColorNotes (app)

May 20, 2016 6:28PM PDT

I just upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy s3 to an s5 & would really like to transfer all my old notes that I have from my Color Note app. But they certainly don't make it easy.
I saw that I could sync the app to my Gmail, so I did but have no idea where to find them now. Nothing in the inboxes.
There Has to be a way to get them to my new phone without having to email them *one by one*.

renegade-- Thanks for the links. I tried out the 2nd one w. Smart Switch. Unfortunately, when it got to the point where it listed the media to transfer, ColorNote was not among them.

Back to square one.

I tried that page before. Old phone didn't have an SD card & the sync feature is a total mystery in terms of how exactly it works. I *do* see my gmail address listed under "Online Backup", but despite hitting "Sync", I'm not seeing them anywhere in Gmail.

I do wonder if just connecting the phone from the charger port to my laptop's usb port would I be able to just drag/drop them, but the port in the old phone is too f--ked & unstable. It never stays connected.

Online backup is not to an e-mail account, but to some cloud storage. All it shares with gmail is that it has the same login id and password, your Google account.

Check the documentation on how to restore or sync from the backup. I've never backed up my Android phone (I assume it doesn't work without a Google account), so I can't tell.

The posted by accident in a new thread. This is what he posted:

I managed to grab the file of my notes from the Colornote app & email it to myself so that I can transfer them to my new phone (Galaxy s5)
I was SO close & ran into another dead end. When I opened it, it was all this crazy gibberish. I realized that it's in ".doc" format from Word 97-2003.
So I tried converting it online to .docx (Word 2010)
Nothing again.
What can I try from here??

Why do you think this file is in MS Word 2003 format? That's a very, very uncommon format for an Android app.

A thing to try:
1. Install the app on your new phone and enter some note.
2. See where its data are located
3. Overwrite that data with the data from the same app on the old phone.
Might just work.

Got as far as this

...step:

"Overwrite that data with the data from the same app on the old phone."

But how do I do that?

You say it's an attachment in your mail. Save it, and use Android's file manager for copy and rename.

Newbie tinkerer here. I found the file in My Files. But when I tap on it, I just get a popup saying "Unsupported file".

I had to google it, but it seems the built-in file manager doesn't allow renaming a file. You either have to use a third party file manager or do it from Windows. Copying it shouldn't be a problem, however, and renaming only is necessary if the current version of your app uses another filename than the old version. But then maybe it doesn't understand the contents either.

http://www.howtogeek.com/231401/how-to-use-android-6.0%E2%80%99s-built-in-file-manager/ tells about the file manager in the current (Marshmellow) version of Android.

Tapping the file doesn't seem the right way.

Maybe you can try "mobile-phone-transfer.Phone transfer program" to transfer app from S3 to S5, it can directly transfer data between mobile phones, such as contacts, messages, photos, apps and more.
