Google for KILLDISK or DBAN, both have free versions. Print any details or instructions. I suggest you get the .ISO file in order to burn to disc and thus boot from it and start the process to "wipe out" you HD as required. The pgms. I mentioned are pretty much the most common out there and do the job well. good luck

And only have this one drive connected then boot up a DBAN or KillDisk and the drive contents are no more.

Google finds these 2 free tools. You can find them for floppy, CD and maybe USB use.

Be sure you're not wiping your OS whe you reformat, unless you can reinstall it.

Darik's Boot & Nuke
Aug 5, 2011 11:32PM PDT

The freeware Darik's Boot & Nuke (D-BAN) does the job. You put it onto a CD and boot from the CD, and then just follow the prompts.

Indeed, sometimes it does too good of a job, and a Windows installation disk will no longer recognize the now-blank drive at all. When this happens it's a good idea to download a Linux disstribution -- Ubuntu is particularly good for this purpose -- and install that first. It'll restore whatever aspect of the drive Windows is looking for, and then you can boot from the Windows disk and do a format/fresh install of Windows.
