How to tell if the dvd is installed right!!??

Aug 4, 2008 7:24PM PDT

We bought a Roadview 10.4 inch drop down dvd for our 2007 Dodge van. We had it installed at curcuit city. They told us we had to pay an additional $50 for some kind of reciever to run this thing to the van's speakers. We have to turn the thing all the way to max to hear it and there is a low frequency hum over it. The hum causes a slight variation in the picture (or purhaps the picture causes the hum, I don't know) But the unit alos has dome lights which are supposed to work as well and do not.
It this all normal? Do drop down dvd's in cars have these issues?

Something's not right. Always fun to deal with the staff at those places.

suggestions?

Do you have any suggestions as to how to deal with this? I (if you didn't guess yet) am clueless about these things and I am afriad they will double talk me into some reason that this is correctly installed.

Frankly?

I'd ask for return and full refund. The product sounds defective.

Then I'd go somewhere else. Sadly I'm more of a DIY type. My background is electronics or the design, manufacture, testing and more. If they won't refund it then you have a warranty issue. It is NOT YOUR FAULT they have a defect. You need to not pay more to fix what never worked.

Receiver?
Aug 5, 2008 2:43AM PDT

What sort of receiver is it? If it's wireless, that would probably be the source of the poor audio quality. I would bring the van back to the installer and explain the issue you are having, and ask that instead of using a wireless receiver (if that is the case), they run wires directly into the audio system. Being a 2007 model, the head unit should have an auxiliary input for these wires.
