General discussion

how to take my laptop back to the beginning?

Feb 28, 2006 7:14PM PST

I`m not very computer literate so I hope you can help me. I recently bought a Toshiba A20. I was expecting there to be a CD included in the box which takes my computer back to the beginning as if it`s never been used ( I don`t know what you call this process) as I had these CD`s with my old laptop- Toshiba A10. Have I been fleeced? If so, how can I get a hold of these CD`s or is there a way to do this without the CD`s.

Thanks in advance.

If you bought it from Toshiba. . .

call them.

If you bought it from a reseller, call Toshiba and ask for the CD.

Some systems have a recovery partition on the HD. Access is machine dependant, you'll have to look around the Start menu.

I`ll go back to the store see what they say, if all else fails wil give Toshiba a call. Do you by any chance no if recovery disks can be used between different laptops made by the same company? For example using the recovery disks from the A10 on the A20?

Thankyou.

Different machines?

Probably not as each disk is specific to a PC/laptop. Well, it might run, but I'm guessing that video, sound, modem, etc. drivers will probably be different. I've also seen that if you try to run a recovery CD on a different machine you will get an error message. Don't ask me how I know.

Good luck.
