I run Windows 7. A few weeks ago I uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) because it was taking up so much of my CPU, and downloaded Avast (the free version). After a couple of weeks I discovered that Avast had been completely uninstalled and MSE was back as my antivirus programme. I uninstalled MSE again using Revo Uninstall, and re-downloaded Avast. Today I found that the same thing had happened - Avast was no longer on my computer and MSE was back again. Once again I have uninstalled MSE and re-downloaded Avast. Can anyone advise me how to prevent this happening, and also how it is happening? Could it be the Windows Updates that are doing this?
To uninstall Avast Antivirus, follow these steps using the Avast Setup wizard which you can access via the Programs and FeaturesAdd or Remove Programs section of your Windows Control Panel:
1. Log into Windows as an administrator and ensure no other programs are running.
2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Programs and Features from the menu that appears
3. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Uninstall from the drop-down menu.
4. When the Avast Setup wizard appears, click Uninstall at the bottom of the screen.
5.Click Yes to confirm the uninstallation of Avast Antivirus.
6.When the uninstallation is complete, click Restart computer to reboot your PC immediately, or click Restart later if you want to manually reboot your PC at a later time.
After your PC restarts, Avast Antivirus is uninstalled. Your PC is no longer protected by Avast against malware and other threats.
