Resolved Question

How to start using Slim Portable DVD Writer GP50NB40

Apr 6, 2014 2:43AM PDT

I have a new Slim Portable DVD Writer GP50NB40 and am trying to figure out how to get it to work. It looks like the front where the slot for the DVD is may be covered with plastic film, but I cannot find an edge where I can start to pull it off. It looks like there is a clear plastic inserted in the middle of the slot where there is a down arrow above it.

I tried to download the user manual and it said to download Acrobat. I already have Acrobat. I tried to download Acrobat anyway, and I cannot find it anywhere to open it. I tried clicking on the Acrobat I already have and it does not open. I do not know how to get the manual downloaded.

Customer Service is closed on weekends and I need the DVD drive to use TurboTax today. Thank you.

LG DVD writer - how to start using
Apr 6, 2014 6:48AM PDT

I tried opening Foxit on my iMac and it said it was from an untrusted source. I did open it anyway and it was an unreadable series of letters and numbers with a few words here and there. Your answer about Foxit did help me because a blue down arrow flashed on the LG web page when I downloaded Foxit and it showed that there was the manual in Acrobat! I looked at that manual in PDF on Acrobat and there was one drawing showing where the button is to press to eject the disk. I guess the CD tray must slide out somehow. I will try it. There is no plastic film coating after all. I was mistaken when I looked at it. Thank you so much.

But I feel your issue is not resolved. It's getting late where I am but hopefully another member can assist you here.

I did finally figure out how to use it. There was no film on it. It has a tray that slides out. I just could not see where the button was to make it slide out. It has been a long time since I used a DVD player or DVD drive that looks like this. I was used to one with a slot that you put the disc into, not this tray that slides out.

Thanks for your help.

If everything fails ...

just find a friend with a PC or laptop with a built-in DVD-drive and ask him to copy the contents of the disk that has the Turbotax program you want to install to a USB-stick, so you can install it from that stick.

Thanks for your suggestion. I had not thought of that idea of using a USB stick.

I did finally get the DVD drive to work. I just was not familiar with how they work and this one turned out to have a tray that slides out. The manual showed that an almost-invisible plastic bar in the slot was the eject button. It was not labeled as such. If I press on that, the tray does pop out and then I can pull it out the rest of the way and insert the DVD. So all is working fine now. Thank you.
