how to start a new home built pc for the first time

tried my hand at building a new pc at home with asus a8v motherboard,western digital wd caviar 160 GB serial ATA hard drive, amd 64 processor, gforce fx5700le graphics, 512mb memory, but i get no signal on my monitor. what am i doing wrong? any help? Please! thanks

First, are all your fans running? Next, do you get any beeps? No fans means power supply did not start or has shut down do to possible overload. There is a sequence of events that occurs to bring the PC to life and, first, you need to find where it stops. Post back your findings.

Hi, check if you have got all the cables properly connected i.e Power Cable, Reset Cable, HDD Cable etc.
