Question

How to setup dual monitors with Dell Ultrabook?

Jun 24, 2013 6:10AM PDT

I am being assigned a Dell Latitude E6430U Ultrabook laptop for work. With my current Dell Precision laptop, I put it into a Dell D-series port replicator and setup two monitors. But the Ultrabook is not configured to setup this way. Is there any way/product to setup the Ultrabook with a dual screen solution?

you can get a HDMI splitter to DVI/ an or VGA then you should be able to have the 2 screens

Monitor 1 and Monitor 2

The HDMI splitter idea is ok so long as the Ultrabook recognizes that I want a monitor 1/monitor 2 setup. If all that happens is that it replicates the same image to two screens, that is no good. Windows will have to recognize it as a dual monitor setup. Will that happen?

Although having the port replicator is great, I may have found a workable solution. I can get an external graphics adapter that links via USB 3.0/2.0 and connect one of my monitor's to that. The Ultrabook has both a VGA and HDMI port, so one of the monitors can be connected that one of them. (I don't think both can be used at the same time.) The external graphics adapter can be had from amazon.com for $50-$90, depending on the manufacturer and model and its capabilities.

Only if you disable the internal screen, or use a USB video adapter that supports multiple monitors - the dock alone won't and the internal video circuitry supports only two simultaneous displays.
