Question

how to setup a printer in a way I can use it with telnet?

Dec 24, 2015 7:42AM PST

I would like to send a print command from a server hosted in Amazon, to a printer installed in a different location, using telnet.

1) is that possible?
2) what kind of router-modem 3g, RG45 do I need? any reccomendation?

Thanks

Telnet is an application layer protocol used on the Internet. So the first thing to do is to find a printer that 'speaks' the telnet-protocol as defined in https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc854. I don't thnik those exist.

But I'm not on your programmer's team so I can't know how we could make this happen. We (speaking of teams I've been on) have used many solutions to trigger a print out so we could craft some solution but as you suspect, all must be known and no restrictions in place. That is, while you may ask for the telnet and a command to trigger the print what we might do is to take that trigger and fire up some script and more.

So my answer is, get more programmers on your team.
