You can use anyone of several Apps to create ringtones from music. You have to select a segment of the song, since ringtones are limited to a certain length. In these apps you create a ringtone from a song on your phone and then follow instructions on how to sync that ringtone back to your phone using iTunes. You cannot simply point to a song on the iPhone to be used as a ringtone.

Any song you have on your Itunes has the capability of becoming a ringtone. Step by step

1. You need to go into file info and select the size and time you want for your song to play! click ok
2.. Next you right click on song and create AAC version which will create a file of whatever segment of song you selected.
3. Now go back to the original song and set the start and stop time of the song back to the stock times.
4. Right click on the new shorter version of the song which should be less than 30 seconds and open up into explorer.
5. With the file showing in windows explorer now change the file extension to m4r. Select ok for every box that opens.
6. Now drag the file into the ringtones section of itunes you are good to go.
7. Now just go into your contacts and edit and select which song for each person you want.
