How to see actual connction speed(adsl)

hey!
i've got a adsl connection... connected to the pc via ethernet.. the connection i see when i enable the modem is the LAN coonection(100mbps)..and not the actual connection speed which should b around 512kpbs...
i used to see this earlier in my control panel>>network connections...
there used to be a connection which said connection to computer connected to internet... cant c this now... so how do i c the actual connection speed..

hope the question doesn't sound very vague

A Net Meter may be needed.

Depending on the modem/router you have,

bringing up the modem connection page of the modem/router should show actual connection speed from ISP to modem.
